If a Jew is always supposed to be in a state of joy is a Jew in a state of joy on the 9th of Av? Is a Jew in a state of joy while attending his grandmother's funeral? Are there times, when sadness are appropriate? Reply

Good Evening, Rabbi Resnick

Thank you for a very nice and energetic presentation. I find happiness to be external and it is based on what I contribute to the happiness of others. Whereas "joy" is what I feel in my relationship with GD and how He loves and cares for me. It is the heartbeat of GD, and I don't have to ever worry that it will flatline.

The Baal Shem Tov said, "Melancholy locks Heaven's gates, prayer opens them, but joy can break through walls."

Rabbi, I ask if the Rambam, Rashi, Rebbe Schneerson, and all humans will have to answer for deeds chosen by free will during this short lifetime. Can all human neshumas place the blame on Rambam and others for following their imagined laws, commandments, and teachings?

Or are each responsible for choices made during each lifetime?

Job 32:7-9, "I thought, “Let age speak; Let advanced years declare wise things.” But truly it is the spirit in men, The breath of Shaddai, that gives them understanding. It is not the aged who are wise, The elders, who understand how to judge."
