Despite growing up with a fairy tale idea of marriage (get married and live happily ever after), I now realize life is often hard and people aren’t always nice. I am sure that whatever triggered Shternie to feel she had no choice but to leave her first husband was very significant. I know this interview was not about that as much as dealing with the aftermath, but when she said, “you can make anything work” about halfway through the interview, it really stood out to me. Something happened and she didn’t feel she could make it work with her first husband. I wish there were no divorce and no broken families, but the older I get, the more I see situations that seem unbearably difficult.
